Longevity has ceased to be a mere scientific aspiration to become one of the greatest engines of innovation, investment, and economic development of the 21st century. While governments, technology companies, and research centers redefine the future of health, Dubai emerges as one of the most ambitious actors in this global transformation.

For much of history, the progress of medicine has been measured by its capacity to combat disease and increase life expectancy. Thanks to the scientific advances of the last century, millions of people today live more years than any previous generation. However, the true challenge no longer consists solely of prolonging life, but of ensuring that those additional years are lived with health, autonomy, and quality.

This shift in perspective has given rise to a new paradigm: healthy longevity. More than a medical discipline, it represents an integral vision that combines biomedical research, artificial intelligence, precision medicine, biotechnology, data analysis, and prevention strategies to better understand the aging process and improve people’s quality of life.

Around this vision, a new economy is emerging—known as the longevity economy—which various analysts consider one of the markets with the greatest growth potential over the coming decades. The aging of the global population, combined with the accelerated development of new technologies, is driving unprecedented investment in research, digital health, predictive diagnostics, personalized medicine, and wellness-oriented solutions.

This is not merely a healthcare challenge. It also represents an economic, technological, and social opportunity that is redefining the priorities of numerous countries.

Longevity as a State Strategy

Nations aspiring to lead the knowledge economy have understood that longevity will be one of the great pillars of future competitiveness. Just as occurred years ago with artificial intelligence or renewable energies, research into healthy aging is beginning to consolidate as a strategic domain capable of attracting international talent, private investment, technology companies, and centers of scientific excellence.

In this scenario, governments no longer compete solely to attract traditional industries. They also seek to become innovation hubs where universities, hospitals, startups, investment funds, and biotechnology companies converge, capable of developing the technologies that will transform the medicine of the coming decades.

Longevity is situated precisely at the intersection of all these disciplines.

Its development requires collaboration among doctors, engineers, geneticists, artificial intelligence specialists, data scientists, pharmaceutical researchers, and public health experts. But it also demands new ways of thinking about wellness, the urban environment, and the quality of life of a society whose life expectancy will continue to rise.

It is here that certain countries have decided to act with a particularly ambitious vision.

The Dubai Model: Building the Future Rather Than Reacting to It

For years, Dubai has demonstrated a singular ability to identify major global transformations before they reach maturity. Its development strategy has not consisted solely of adapting to technological changes, but of creating the necessary conditions to become an innovation laboratory capable of attracting international talent, knowledge, and investment.

Artificial intelligence, the digital economy, autonomous mobility, space exploration, sustainability, and financial technologies are just a few examples of fields where the emirate has chosen to develop its own ecosystem, driving regulatory frameworks, specialized institutions, and international alliances.

Longevity is part of that very same vision of the future.

The creation of the Dubai Longevity Authority (DLA) through Law No. 17 of 2026 represents far more than an administrative reform. It constitutes a strategic declaration on the role that Dubai aspires to play in one of the industries with the greatest scientific and economic impact of the coming decades.

Its objective does not consist solely of improving the health indicators of the population. The initiative aims to consolidate an ecosystem where biomedical research, technological innovation, prevention, digital health, and international collaboration converge.

In other words, Dubai does not simply aspire to participate in the longevity revolution; it seeks to become one of the places where that revolution takes shape.

An Ecosystem Designed to Accelerate Innovation

One of the factors that differentiates Dubai from other international innovation hubs is its capacity to integrate sectors that have traditionally evolved independently.

While in many countries scientific research, private enterprise, public administration, and investment continue to function as relatively isolated structures, the Dubai model favors the creation of ecosystems where these actors collaborate to accelerate the development of new solutions.

This philosophy is particularly relevant in the field of longevity.

The advances that will define the future of this discipline will not depend on a single revolutionary discovery, but on the convergence of multiple technologies. Artificial intelligence will allow the analysis of massive volumes of clinical data with unprecedented precision. Precision medicine will make it possible to design treatments tailored to the genetic characteristics of each individual. Biotechnology will continue to expand the boundaries of knowledge regarding the biological mechanisms of aging. And digital health will facilitate continuous monitoring of a person’s physiological state, shifting the focus from treating disease toward prevention.

In this context, the capacity to connect different disciplines can become one of the primary factors of competitiveness.

Therefore, Dubai’s commitment to longevity should not be interpreted solely as a healthcare initiative. It forms part of a much broader strategy destined to consolidate the emirate as an international hub where innovation, knowledge, entrepreneurship, and vision for the future converge.

This multidisciplinary approach not only drives scientific development but also opens the door to an increasingly relevant question: what role can other disciplines, such as art and culture, play in a conversation that has traditionally been dominated by science?

That question begins to acquire growing importance as longevity ceases to be solely a medical goal to become a broader reflection on human evolution, wellness, and the way we imagine the future.

Beyond Science: Longevity as a Cultural Transformation

When we speak of longevity, it is customary to think of research laboratories, clinical trials, or advances in biotechnology. However, the great transformations of history have never been exclusively scientific. Every technological revolution has been accompanied by a cultural shift that has modified the way people understand the world and their place within it.

The digital revolution transformed our way of communicating. Artificial intelligence is redefining work, creativity, and decision-making. In the same way, the longevity revolution will not consist solely of developing new therapies or medical technologies. It will also imply a new way of understanding aging, health, wellness, and human potential.

The question is no longer only how long we will be able to live, but how our society will change when living more years in good health becomes an increasingly real possibility.

This new scenario raises questions that transcend the scientific realm. It affects the economy, education, urban design, architecture, culture, and the way we imagine the future. It is precisely at this point that disciplines apparently detached from medicine begin to acquire an unexpected relevance.

Art as a Space to Imagine the Future

Throughout history, art has accompanied the great transformations of humanity. The Renaissance did not only represent an aesthetic evolution; it reflected a new vision of knowledge. The Industrial Revolution inspired artistic movements that explored the relationship between human beings and machines. More recently, contemporary art has addressed questions related to artificial intelligence, climate change, digital identity, and space exploration.

In this sense, longevity constitutes one of the great emerging narratives of the 21st century.

Art does not have the mission to prove scientific hypotheses or to develop medical solutions. Its contribution is different and, precisely for that reason, complementary. Art has the capacity to convert complex concepts into visual experiences, to translate scientific questions into symbols, and to open spaces for reflection where the imagination can anticipate scenarios that do not yet exist.

Artworks do not change the biology of aging, but they can influence the way a society interprets that challenge and dialogues about it. On occasion, this capacity to generate new narratives even precedes technological advances.

“Longevity Gene Activation ©”: An Artistic Investigation into Human Potential

My interest in longevity arose from an artistic perspective long before this topic acquired the institutional relevance we observe today in Dubai.

In 2025, I developed the artwork “Longevity Gene Activation ©”, a piece conceived as a visual investigation into human evolution, transformation, and the potential of the human being. The artwork does not intend to illustrate a scientific theory or represent a biomedical discovery. Its purpose is to use the symbolic language of contemporary art to invite the viewer to reflect on one of the deepest questions of our time: how do we imagine the future of human life?

The composition incorporates relief and applications of pure 24-karat gold, elements that transcend their material dimension to become symbolic resources. Gold, historically associated with permanence, transcendence, and value, dialogues here with the idea of longevity understood not merely as a chronological extension of life, but as a permanent quest for evolution.

When a year later Dubai announced the creation of the Dubai Longevity Authority, it was inevitable to observe the convergence between an artistic investigation developed from visual language and an institutional movement that placed longevity at the center of a strategy for the future.

There is no causal relationship between the two events. However, both reflect the same reality: longevity has ceased to be a concept reserved for scientific research to become one of the great themes that will define the coming decades.

Dubai as a Meeting Point for Innovation and Creativity

One of the most interesting aspects of the Dubai model is its capacity to gather diverse disciplines within a single strategic vision.

Innovation does not emerge solely from laboratories. It also needs spaces where creativity, critical thinking, design, architecture, technology, and culture converge. The cities that will lead the future will be those capable of favoring this constant exchange between different forms of knowledge.

In this context, contemporary art can play a significant role as a catalyst for new conversations. Not because it replaces science, but because it widens the framework from which we interpret its advances.

Longevity will not only transform healthcare systems. It will also modify our relationship with time, learning, creativity, work, and the human experience. Understanding this transformation requires a multidisciplinary gaze capable of integrating both scientific knowledge and cultural reflection.

Conclusion

The creation of the Dubai Longevity Authority represents much more than an administrative initiative. It symbolizes the consolidation of a vision in which health, technology, innovation, and wellness become pillars of economic and social development.

Dubai has understood that leading the longevity revolution does not mean solely investing in biomedical research. It means building an ecosystem capable of attracting talent, driving new ideas, and favoring collaboration between disciplines that, for too long, evolved along separate paths.

In that scenario, art also has a contribution to offer.

As a contemporary artist, I consider that visually exploring concepts such as longevity, human evolution, or the potential of the human being does not consist of anticipating answers, but of formulating questions that accompany the major changes of our era.

Perhaps that is one of the most valuable functions of art: to offer images capable of dialoguing with the future before the future finishes defining itself.

Because great revolutions do not begin solely with a scientific discovery.

They begin when a society is capable of imagining a new horizon
